Deacon Jones: 1938-2013

Back when real men wore mustaches. We're taking a break from running back week to remember one of the most fearsome defenders to ever play the game. Deacon Jones died Monday at the age of 74. The former 14th round pick revolutionized the defensive end position, and actually is credited with inventing the word "sack." He probably has more sacks than any other defender, but sacks didn't become an official stat until well after he'd retired.

Jones was known for his head slaps and borderline (or sometimes not so borderline) dirty plays, although as you see here, he was a fairly outspoken advocate for player safety (and also being a professional and a hard worker).

Enjoy a few highlights (and some cheesy music) as we remember one of the greatest defenders the NFL has ever seen.
