Analysis: Mason Crosby continues to be above average
After his nightmare season in 2012, Mason Crosby has been nothing but solid for the Packers, and 2016 continued that trend. His 86.7% conversion rate on kicks this season ranked tenth in the league, jumping to eighth if you exclude kickers who didn’t complete a full season.
Crosby also connected on perhaps the two most clutch kicks of his career, giving the Packers the lead twice late in their divisional matchup with the Cowboys. His 56-yard kick during that game was an adventure, knuckling left and right before scooting through the uprights, but it all counts the same in the box score and Crosby connected when it mattered most.
His miss against Atlanta was unfortunate, but it ultimately wouldn’t have amounted to anything more than window dressing in what would become a blowout loss. In truth, Crosby was more than adequate, and he continues to be the reliable, above average kicker that he’s been throughout his decade long tenure in Green Bay.
