Ask Jon Anything - Hugs, Holiday Traditions, and More

Welcome back to our quarterly installment of Ask Jon Anything, where our Patreon and Substack supporters get to ask me whatever’s on their mind. On this version, we’ll take a look at receivers playing on defense, how the Oakland A’s affect the Green Bay Packers, hugs, holiday traditions, and more!

Dusty - The cornerback room is decimated and the Packers have to use a WR at CB, Troy Brown style. Who on the current roster is the best option?

My first instinct was to see which of the Packers’ receivers played on defense in high school. If you look through most player’s bios on their college websites, it’ll tell you what they were up to as a prep. But funnily enough, none of the Packers’ top receivers played any defense at all, with the exception of Christian Watson, who spent some time at safety.

So with no obvious candidates, I have to go with my gut. If I had to put a receiver at defensive back, it would be Jayden Reed. First, of the Packers’ receivers, he’s got the best combination of short-area quickness and long speed, giving him at least the physical skills you’d think he’d need to play corner at a respectable level.

But secondly, of the Packers’ main receivers, Reed by far appears to be the meanest. He’s the guy I’d pick to fill a gap and put a running back in the dirt. He’s the one to take on a block, even if he’s significantly smaller than the would-be blocker. He looks like he’d scratch and claw and do everything he could to stop somebody if it came down to it.
