2023 will be the eighth year that The Power Sweep has covered the Packers, and as all good teams do, we feel the need to evolve. That’s why starting this month, we’re offering content from The Power Sweep on Substack, a newsletter tool that will help us deliver content to our audience directly.

Why Substack?

Adding Substack to our toolset allows us to accomplish a couple of significant goals.

First, it’s another way for you to connect with The Power Sweep that doesn’t rely on social media. We love hearing from readers and listeners in all forms, but the media landscape seems to be shifting away from social media in general and outlets like Twitter and Facebook, specifically. The fact is that those sites have never done much as far as driving traffic to The Power Sweep, and maintaining a presence there takes time away from what we’d rather be doing, namely writing articles and creating podcasts.

Second, using Substack will allow us to consolidate our content streams. Currently we publish subscriber-only (or, rather, Patron-only) content at Patreon.com, which works well but splits our streams. There’s no one way to subscribe and get everything in the same place, whether you decide to support The Power Sweep financially or not. Using Substack allows us to publish subscriber and non-subscriber content in the same place. If you choose to support The Power Sweep financially, you can do so and you’ll have full access to everything we publish regardless of where it’s published.

A new way to support The Power Sweep

That brings us to the third reason behind this move: financial security for us. We currently (and will continue to) use Patreon to raise financial support for The Power Sweep and our projects here. But in 2022, there were some unusual internal moves happening at Patreon, enough that we had some concerns about the long-term stability of the company.

Using Substack gives us a chance to offer more support options for our readers and listeners. You can get the same benefits from choosing the paid subscriber option on Substack as you do when you choose a support tier on Patreon, and we can ensure our financial future by giving people another option to support.

To be clear: we’re not moving off of Patreon, but we want to do this to give more options for you and future listeners and readers. You can choose to support us on Patreon. You can choose to subscribe on Substack. Or you can do neither and just read the free content alone. It’s all up to you.

How do I get started?

Subscribing on Substack is easy. All you need is an email address. Click this link to get started, then choose whether you want just the free articles or if you’d like the subscriber option. You’ll get a neat discount if you choose the full-year subscription.

That’s all there is to it! Substack is going to be a work in progress for us for a little while, but we’re looking forward to bringing you the same great content in a new form. Happy reading.
