Three Packers Players on the Bubble After the NFL Draft

The unfortunate flipside of collecting ten new players over the course of the NFL Draft is that more than a few players are suddenly in danger of losing their jobs.

But unfortunate though it is, it’s the nature of the business, and we think these three players are most in danger of having to find employment elsewhere.

DT Letroy Guion

It’s almost an annual tradition to wonder if this is the year Guion is going to lose his job, but this time it might actually be for real. Things first started to get a bit tenuous for Guion when the Packers picked up Ricky Jean Francois after he was released by Washington, and now now that third round draft pick Montravius Adams is joining the defensive line group, Guion should be updating his resume and contacting some references to make sure he’s ready for an impending job search. He may not even get the chance to serve his upcoming suspension in Green Bay.

RB Christine Michael

The Packers did re-sign Michael this offseason, but their only real financial commitment to the mercurial running back was a $25,000 signing bonus. Michael’s skills and foibles should be well known in Green Bay after he spent half a season there last year. If he doesn’t show up in a big way through minicamp and training camp, the Packers will probably be content to stick with a couple of their three newly drafted rookie running backs. Michael is too inconsistent to merit another season in green and gold.

UPDATE: Michael was apparently in such danger that he's already been released.

WR Jeff Janis

Janis was a project from the moment he arrived in Green Bay, and playoff heroics aside, that project has never been completed. Though Janis is a borderline Pro Bowl-level contributor on special teams, his first and most important responsibility has always been catching passes from Aaron Rodgers. He hasn’t shown any sort of capacity to absorb the offense with any consistency, and the clock eventually runs out on every project player, even one so physically gifted as Janis. Two new wide receivers means that clock is really ticking.
