The Packers have had consistent trouble getting value from their high-contract players since about 2020. David Bakhtiari’s disastrous post-extension ACL tear is the premier example, but in the same span, the Packers have also gotten poor performances from a number of other big money players.

De’Vondre Campbell’s 2022 extension turned out to be a mistake almost immediately. Aaron Rodgers was jettisoned just a year into a deal that looked like it might keep him with the Packers forever (though that may have always been the plan). Jaire Alexander’s injuries have similarly kept him from playing to his big-money potential. Even Kenny Clark hasn’t always performed like one of the best defensive linemen in the league, though he’s always been available and consistently solid. But when you’re paid exceptional money, it’s fair to expect exceptional play.

Two weeks into the season, Rashan Gary’s performance might have you wondering if he’s the latest Packers player to disappoint after inking a big deal. Gary signed a premium extension last October, but since then his play has tailed off somewhat.
