I am being tortured by news that won't break for a year

You know well by now that I’ll never turn down a chance to talk about uniforms.

So let’s talk about uniforms.

The NFL’s “Rivalries” uniform program has been in the back of my mind since it popped onto the radar screen of the uni-verse last month. It won’t get away. It’s like an earworm of a song or a piece of popcorn that I can’t get out from between my teeth.

And the worst part is, I’m not going to find out what the Packers’ Rivalry uniforms are going to look like until next year. A whole year! There are new Packers uniforms coming and I’m not allowed to see them for months and months and months. That’s profoundly unfair! What manager do I speak to about this?

The thing is, I’m pretty sure I’m going to hate them. And that’s okay; they’re not for me. Nobody is designing uniforms with me in mind. All of these specialty uniforms are for people who want to post fire emojis on Instagram or TikTok and talk about them being “clean” and use words like “drippy” to talk about uniforms. That’s the kind of buzz the NFL and NBA and MLB are chasing, and I get that it’s not for me. The “let’s get every team to have consistent, easily recognizable uniforms that look good on the field broken down into simple home, road, and alternate categories” era is over.

What could these uniforms look like? A possible leak of the Miami Dolphins’ Rivalry threads gave us a glimpse. Whether or not they’re real, I don’t know, but that feels right based on what we’ve seen in other leagues.

I can’t even conceive of what a bold, striking uniform along those lines would look like for the Packers. But if I were going to throw out some possibilities for a Packers-centric Rivalry uniform, here’s what I’d want.
