Expectations going into the season: High
Expectations were: Exceeded
Analysis: Bakhtiari proves his contract extension was well deserved
David Bakhtiari’s base salary was the 63rd highest among NFL tackles in 2016.
David Bakhtiari was considered the best pass blocking left tackle in the NFL in 2016.
The Packers got an incredible bargain for Bakhtiari, even factoring in the massive signing bonus gifted to the fourth-year player shortly before the start of the season. He was worth every penny the Packers paid.
Since he was forced into a starting spot in 2013, Bakhtiari has improved every single year, and 2016 was no exception. Playing all 16 regular season games for the third time in his four year career, Bakhtiari showcased incredible technique protecting Aaron Rodgers’ blindside.
He was never flustered, and even on the rare occasion that he gave up a pressure, it was never a regular issue.
As much as of a bargain as the Packers got in Bakhtiari in 2016, he may be even more valuable next season. He’ll count under $6 million dollars against the cap, he’ll be just 25 years old, and he’ll enter the season as the reigning Pro Football Focus Pass Blocker of the Year. The future is bright for David Bakhtiari.
