Analysis: Trevor Davis shines in preseason but stumbles in the spotlight
Trevor Davis’s season can easily be divided into two parts: training camp and the regular season. In training camp, especially early on, he was the darling of practice. Quick in and out of his breaks, Davis seemed to make dazzling plays with regularity.
In the regular season, that version of Davis disappeared. Though he had moments, Davis couldn’t climb the depth chart enough to make a significant impact on Sundays, eventually finding himself a healthy scratch throughout much of the latter half of the season, even as injuries decimated the Packers’ receiving corps.
Davis found himself in the doghouse after drops, fumbles, and a muffed punt in Tennessee drew the ire of the coaching staff, but there were bright spots too.
His first career receiving touchdown was a thing of beauty; he deftly tapped his toes on the sideline after working free of a defensive back, finding Aaron Rodgers during a scramble drill. He also showed his tremendous speed on a 55-yard punt return.
Though he didn’t put it all together in a significant way in 2016, Davis offered a tantalizing glimpse at his physical skills, and hopefully he’ll be a much improved player in 2017.
