Packers Select RB Jamaal Williams in Fourth Round
Running back was considered one of the Packers’ biggest needs heading into the final day of the draft, and they’ve addressed that need with the selection of Jamaal Williams. Williams was a productive if somewhat limited back in college and didn’t show a lot as a receiver, but his big frame is a good contrast to Ty Montgomery.
What are Jamaal Williams’ strengths?
- Good size at 6-0, 212
- Decisive runner
- Solid in pass protection
- Good ball security
What are Jamaal Williams’ weaknesses?
- Poor overall speed (4.59 40-yard dash)
- Little experience as a receiver
- Doesn’t break as many tackles as you’d expect with size
How does Jamaal Williams fit with the Packers?
The Packers have a starting running back in Ty Montgomery, but beyond Montgomery, the depth chart is wide open. Williams would offer a contrasting style to Montgomery’s speed and versatility, providing power and strength. He’ll be counted on to soak up some carries and to provide a bit more reliability than Christine Michael has shown in his Packers tenure so far.
