Week 3 Picks - All About the Packers
I think it says good things about the Packers that their 2023 season so far has really been defined by the team itself, not their opponent.
The Bears barely count as an NFL team, but the Packers did what you’re supposed to do to bad teams: they throttled them. Truly, the Packers decimated the Bears in Week 1. The Packers undid everything that was supposed to be good about the Bears, and they did it in convincing fashion. That’s a really good thing.
I’m not sure the Falcons are really any good, but it seems important that the storylines after the Packers’ Week 2 loss in Atlanta focused on the Packers failing more than the Falcons being the better team. Maybe they were, but it was the Packers tripping over themselves on offense and defense that defined the game.
We haven’t really gotten a measuring stick game for the Packers, but I think these first two weeks have helped us learn plenty. We’re learning about what the Packers do well — beat bad teams — and what they don’t (or at least haven’t done so far) — close out games against teams well-equipped to beat them.
Even if we’re not sure about a lot of things related to the 2023 Packers, those are still two important data points. Week 3 will give us a chance to build on them.
