Week 3 Thoughts - Three times is a trend

Week 3 of the NFL season is here, and it feels like we should know more about the league than we do right now.

I think that’s a problem of anticipation as much as anything, though. Right now, for me at least, all I’m seeing in the NFL is either positive or negative priors being concerned. The Packers are good? Of course, I assumed so. The Bears are bad? Obviously, who would think any different? The Colts are 2-0? Okay, that one threw me for a loop. I’d have bet theoretical money that they’d be more likely to start the season 0-2 than 2-0, but here we are.

Small outliers aside, I think we still need to urge caution as far as any big assumptions about the league. There is a long way to go. The Packers have 15 games remaining on their regular-season schedule, and who knows what can happen in the playoffs? Multiply that reality by 32 and you get a realistic picture of the NFL.

Two weeks is enough for some coincidences, but for real trends we’re going to have to wait a while.
