Why more slot snaps could help Luke Musgrave

Even adjusting for the unusual conditions surrounding the Packers offense this season, Luke Musgrave is off to a slow start.

Through three games, the 2023 second-round pick has managed just two catches for nine yards. Among the eight Packers players to receive multiple targets this year, Musgrave ranks last in both catches and yards. It’s hardly the start to the season anyone would have hoped for from Musgrave after he recorded 34 catches for 352 yards in just nine games last year.

Instead of building on his promising rookie season, Musgrave has been planted firmly behind Tucker Kraft on the tight end depth chart. And it should be noted that Kraft deserves every rep he’s gotten. He’s ahead of Musgrave for a reason.

But Musgrave’s early season performance has still been a disappointment. A second-year second-round pick should be better than this. So why isn’t he?
